In the spirit of this giving season, I've decided to do a giveaway—of something from my studio—everyday for 21 days starting December 1st...tomorrow! That's right, I will be giving away 21 items from my studio to 21 lucky people.  Anything from paintings to prints to random things in my studio I feel like giving away. Interested? Then keep reading!

The giveaway will take place daily on Instagram starting December 1st, so if you're not on Instagram, get on it. It's free to join, and you'll be glad you did.  Follow me on Instagram here: @jenmeyerart

Everyday on Instagram I will post a picture of what the giveaway item is for that day, and all you have to do to enter each day is tag a friend on that post and you will be entered.  Simple and fun, and perfect for unique gift-giving, or just to give yourself a little something.

See you on Instagram! :-)

Pictures of my studio...

My studio space

So I’ve been in my new studio for a few weeks now.  After getting the heat problem under control…I gotta say,  I’ve been really productive!  Feeling really inspired to paint, paint, paint has been a great way to start things off right in LA.  I can get messy in here and it's nice to see my finished paintings starting to pile up. Here's a few pictures of my new space and work:

And next month I’ll be opening my studio doors for the Inglewood Open Studios on November 14th and 15th, 2015.  If you’re in the LA area please do come by and say ‘HI’.

I’m a little nervous about opening up my doors…lots of people I don’t know in my personal space…but I’m doing it anyway.  Hopefully some good things will come out of it.

What's happening

Another New Years resolution for myself is to get out there.  I can be an introvert when it comes to showing my work in person and especially drawing live in person.  But I find that when I do these things anyway, despite the uncertainty and fear that comes along with exposing myself as an artist to the World, I end up having more fun in the end and wonder what I was so scared about in the first place.  It ends up giving me more esteem about my work and helps me understand on a deeper level how to clarify what I want in life.  SO I'm not allowing myself to recluse into my studio for too too long this year.  I'd like to do at least one event every month and stay active going to other artists openings and museum exhibits consistently throughout the year. So here's what's on the schedule so far:

January 23rd 2015 :

Fame By Frame

I will be drawing live at the Fame by Frame exhibit party at the Bay Meadows Welcome Center.  This should be a fun event!  An instagram photo exhibit and contest. There will be music, food, and Silvi the poet!

RSVP here.

January 24th 2015:

I have donated a lots of art and prints for the silent auction to raise funds at the 1st year Anniversary Gala fundraiser for The Humane League.

Gotta support the animals :-)

Get your tickets now and join in on the cause.

And there will be more to come, I will update everyone as things pop up.

Photo resolution

I'm off to a productive new year! One of my first goals was to photograph paintings that I have finished that no one has seen yet (well besides a very few).

I worked on most of these paintings last year in my studio in Colorado and finished them off here in California.

Now that I have photographed them...they are also listed for sale.  If you click on the titles of the paintings you will see more pictures and how to purchase.

The Start of a New Art Collection

I got a lovely email this morning with this picture of one of my Art-o-mat pieces along with three other artists pieces. They were purchased in a Las Vegas Art-o-Mat machine and are now in her daughters playroom. How cool to grow up with original art on the walls!  I'm excited to get my first feedback from someone who bought a piece!

The beginning of a life long collection :)

What is your art collection like? Do you have tiny art? big art? dreams for art?

Pictures from the Enormous Tiny Art show at Nahcotta. show ends Ocober 1st.

Here are some beautiful pictures from the ETA show at Nahcotta.

A nice Portsmouth kinda day.

I just love seeing my art on the walls!

So. much. cute. stuff.

I could easily live in here.

Much thanks to Brett and Suzzy Cromwell of the Lowell Film Collaborative for taking these beautiful pictures! XO

and of course thank you to everyone at Nahcotta for putting on a wonderful show!  The next show at Nahcotta will feature Teresa McCue's work from Oct 5th-28th.

New Growth Sketchbook

I'm working on my new sketchbook for the 2013 Sketchbook World Tour.  I'm taking a much different approach to this book than I have the other two in past years.  This one is starting off with an embroidered cover.  Although quite time consuming, I'm liking how it's coming out and it's somehow very comforting and calming to make. I started it during the Colorado fires while talking with family that had to evacuate.  It was then I had the idea to make this book about new growth.  Here's how it looks so far:

What do you think?  Do you have any thoughts about new growth? any inspirational quotes?

Sneak peek of my work for Nahcotta's 'Enormous Tiny Art' Show this Fall

Here's a sneek peek of what I've been working on for Nahcotta's Enormous Tiny Art Showhappening this Fall in Portsmouth NH.  I wasn't planning on getting so detailed in these drawings, but that's how they are turning out. super detailed.  I'm only drawing ones that charge me emotionally.

I get to thinking about how these animals have their own little lives and families.  I wonder what they're like? Do they get along? Do they see each other a lot or only on 'special' occasions?

An interested meerkat.
This is Mr Snow Pants.
I love the bangs on this highland cow.
Any thoughts?

The Three Sages

I finished the sage etchings/carvings (the beginnings can be seen in this earlier post).  Tommy and I have so many people that have positively influenced our lives, it was hard to pick just three.  After weeks of debate we decided on our top three: Ken Wilber, Ram Dass and Wayne Dyer. All living sages. All have a slightly different take and perspective on life and have helped us grow so much.  Now we are always reminded of their wisdom when we see them above our couch...I like how they came out.

Do you have anyone who has positively changed your life?  Who is? and have you told them?

Miami Beach Sketchbook completed!

Another sketchbook complete for the Brooklyn Art Library! This one is about my time in Miami Beach. (My last sketchbook was about Portsmouth).   I tried incorporating more color (via colored pencils).  I like how it came out. Of course it's filled with my favorite places and things in Miami Beach.  It's a bit smaller than the Portsmouth book so I had to edit it down a bit.  I could have filled it with so much more.

Here it is:

There's always a push to finish towards the deadline and it's usually bittersweet to part with it. Since this is my second one, it was a bit easier...just a teeny bit. Starting in April 2012 it will tour the World! See if it's coming to your city or country here. Let me know what you think too!

Opening night in Brooklyn

Our trip to the Brooklyn Art Library for the Sketchbook Opening was fabulous!  Luckily we got there early to check it out.  The space is beautiful, very organized and there were great goodies for sale, like blank sketchbooks, which of course I found two more I HAD to buy.
All the books were catalogued and behind a rope.   With a library card you can check out two sketchbooks at a time.   Tommy and I looked at around 20 books.  The smell in the air was sweet from the chocolatier next door, it lured us over to all that chocolate goodness.  It was like Willy Wonka's factory next door.  After our chocolate break we went back in for more sketchbooks.  There was such a variety of books and talent it's almost overwhelming.  I wish I could look at every single one of them.
It got so packed opening night, there was standing room only.  People came from all over.  I was surprised how many people there hadn't made a sketchbook but were there to look at them or had come to look at a friends book.  We went back the next day to enjoy some more books.   What fun!

Click here to see if if the tour is coming near you.  If you'd like to see my book just give them my name 'Jen Meyer' and the category 'If you lived here'.  Or check out some pictures of it from this post.

Take a look at a future sketchbook here.

SugiPOP! at Portsmouth Museum of Art

*** showcasing cutting-edge Japanese anime, manga, comics and contemporary art -- runs through January 2011***

This show is a collaborative effort, featuring the work of nearly 30 established artists, and includes some awesome examples of original manga and comic art, plus original cels from somr of the coolest anime films made to date, like Cowboy Bebop and Princess Mononoke.

This show also features some original Edo woodblock prints from the likes of Hokusai and Kuniyoshi -- work that helped lay down the early foundations of today's modern Japanese style.

"Sugi", the Japanese word for "too much" or "excess", represents the extreme characteristics of Japanese manga and anime, which has then merged with the American phenomenon of Pop Art, to become SugiPOP!, a blend of Japanese and American contemporary art shaped and defined by over-the-top pop.

Cutting edge pieces have even been specifically created for the show, by such well-known personas as Mike Shinoda - lead singer from Linkin Park.

(more pictures after the jump.)
